Decrim in Grenada: what's actually legal now, in plain English

Somebody just say it plain. "Decriminalized" does not mean fully legal. Here is the whole thing in plain English, no lawyer words.

What you can do: have up to 56 grams, grow up to 4 plants. If you are 21 or older, the small-amount criminal penalty is gone.

What you still cannot do: use it in public, especially in and around schools, workplaces, and public transport. Decriminalized possession is not permission to smoke anywhere you like.

The age is 21. Not 18.

Young people are handled differently, on purpose. A minor under 18 with a small amount is referred to child protection, not charged. Someone 18 to 20 is referred to an education and support program. Help and diversion, not a criminal record.

Old records: the law includes expungement for prior minor-possession convictions. If that is your situation, it is worth knowing the door exists.

Is this political, could it be reversed? Here is the fact, only the fact. The bill passed with support from the government, the opposition, and the independent member. All sides. That almost never happens with anything. Whatever you think about politics here, cannabis reform was one of the few things everyone actually agreed on. What is still being built: the licensing system for growing and selling at scale is not finished yet. That is a separate, longer process, and it does not change what is legal for you personally today.
