Food security numbers: 80% imports and what it means for licensing

Grenada imports approximately 80% of its food. We are a nation of farmers who buy most of our food from overseas.

If commercial cannabis is legalized without agricultural integration requirements, what happens? Farmers switch from food crops to cannabis (higher margins). Food imports increase. Food prices rise. Food security decreases.

The proposed solution: tie food production to cannabis licensing. Every commercial cannabis facility should grow food alongside cannabis. A facility licensed for 5 acres of cannabis must maintain at least 5 acres of food crops.

What do the numbers tell us? Is the 1:1 ratio the right approach?
